Taj Exotica Resort

We left Male airport under cover of darkness to be greeted by representatives from the Resort. We gathered our belongings and went directly to our boat. Life jackets on. Check. Refresher towel. Check. Bottle of water. Check.

Our 15 minute journey on the boat was pleasant. We could see the lights on various atolls in the distance. There were boats traveling in all directions as they delivered people to the various resorts surrounding Male. We were greeted by a number of staff from the resort who walked us along the jetty to a reception area. Here we had a chance to sit down on a comfortable couch and enjoy a complimentary drink. It was now about 1130pm (local).

One of the staff took us on a guided tour of the resort in the dark. This combined with tiredness and blocked ears made for distinct lack of information. Ah well, such is life. We can explore in the morning.

The villa is magnificent. The view is spectacular. What can I say. We have awoken to an overcast day this morning, although it is dry, the temperature is reasonable and the breeze is awesome. What a life. A day to relax at the beginning of our stay.

Breakfast by the beach with the sun beaming down. It had been raining briefly, but the sun popped out for us to eat breakfast. It is a good thing we went for the Full Board option with all of our meals included. Fresh fruit, yoghurt and crunchy granola was $20 US. A cheese and tomato omelette with bacon and a pork sausage was around $24 US and I must say it was extremely tasty.

A quick look around the resort found us back at the villa and swimming in the ocean and lazing around in our own pool. It feels like 4pm in the afternoon and in reality it is just past 11am. The whole day is still ahead of us.

Mobile reception is not the best, but Belinda has found a particular spot where it seems to work. We have marked the spot with the magic thongs and all we need is a sign that says "Stand here for best mobile reception"!

A relaxing morning and afternoon saw us head over to 24 Degrees for some lunch. The menus have a huge selection for us to choose from. A potato teriyaki and vegetable thing was my first little snack. I was disappointed that I could not get the Maldivian Chicken but I had a nice tuna dish. Belinda had a lovely beer battered rainbow runner fillet which was delicious. Desert was a must. As Belinda felt she could not have another "battered" item, I decided it was my duty to make her jealous and I ordered the Termpura Pineapple and it was so nice.

A quick walk along to the dive shop and we hired our snorkel gear for the rest of our stay. We wandered back to the villa to drop the gear off and the couch called me. Next thing I know and it is close to 6pm. Happy Hour - gone. Feeding of the stingray - completed without any of us. You would think they would have given us a call! There is always tomorrow....
