Peulla - Bariloche

Day 5 - Peulla - Bariloche

Peulla, Puerto Frías, Puerto Alegre, Puerto Blest, Bariloche

Monday, 26 August 2013

We left the hotel at approximately 10am this morning. We boarded our bus and drove 100 metres to the Chilean Customs Station where we checked out of Chile. We then drove approximately 25km across the mountain ranges. We drove through rainforest and through snow as we crossed the mountains in our off road bus. There was no fear of traffic coming the other way as this crossing is now only used by the tour operator and the staff from the hotel. The hotel staff know the times of the buses and make radio contact if they are coming from the other direction. Almost four wheel driving in a bus is an experience I've never had.

We arrived at Puerto Frias and went through customs into Argentina. Passport, incoming card and of course the printout from the reciprocity fee were all required. A random sample of bags were opened and searched. To any of us luckily enough. We then took the boat to Puerto Alegre on the other side of Lake Frias. Here we had lunch. The weather has been very cold, wet and snowy today. Such is life. We were offered a walk after lunch before leaving Puerto Alegre, but the majority of us declined. Just too wet.

We took a short drive to Puerto Blest then hopped on a boat to Puerto Panuelo. We switched back to a bus and headed into our final destination at Bariloche. It is very windy in Bariloche Andy very cold. There has been some snow today according to the weather app!
