Lima - Cusco

Day 17 - Lima - Cusco

Lima, Cusco

Saturday, 7 September 2013

Out to the airport this morning and on our way to Cusco. Only a short hour and ten minute flight. Couldn't believe the length of the queue to go through security. It was half way across the airport, then eventually we ended up in the winding queue inside the security area. Must admit, it did move steadily.

Magnificent flight into Cusco. Flying through mountains, banking around, then landing in this city nestled in amongst the mountains. We are currently at an elevation of 3400m and some are feeling the effects of the altitude. We have all been drinking coca tea which helps with the altitude sickness or just popped a pill.

We went on a city tour and looked at Santo Damingo Convent which showed the Inca and Spanish influences. We then walked to The Cusco Basilica Cathedral. This was spectacular inside. Very opulent. It was a shame that no photos were allowed.

We also saw a monthly celebration around the city square. Very lucky. The weather was nice, but the temperature dropped rapidly around 3pm.

Went out for dinner at a local restaurant and had a delicious baked apple dessert. The city at night looked great with all the lights up on the hills.
