Hue to Hanoi

We checked out of our hotel this morning and went for a walk around the Imperial Citadel and the Forbidden Purple City. This complex is currently being restored and is expected to be finished in 2030. It was damaged during the war.

We then had a rickshaw ride from the Imperial Citadel to our restaurant for lunch. My 'driver' huffed and puffed a lot and complained about being hot , then asked for his tip!!!

We went to a hotel for dinner tonight. It was a Western meal and was delicious.

Belinda and Peter's room is huge and has a spectacular view. Much nicer than looking between buildings down here on the 8th floor.

We have one night here in Hanoi and tomorrow night we spend on a junk on Halong Bay. No blog that night as I am guessing we will not have any Internet access. We then return to have our last night in Hanoi before heading home.

Hoi An to Hue

We had a 3 hour bus trip today from Hoi An to Hue. It was sad to leave Hoi An as we were very lucky to be a part of the Moon Festival. We stopped a quite a few places during the trip for photo opportunities. Dinh (Zin) was awesome as usual. Belinda mentioned seeing the kids going into school and how cute they looked and Dinh got the bus to turn around to allow us to go into the school grounds for a quick look.

We stopped at the King's mausoleum. Hue was the capital of Vietnam under the Nguyen Dynasty. It was pretty spectacular and it took 11 years to construct.

We stopped for lunch, the went down the river on a sampan to our next destination - the Thien Mu Pagoda. This 7 story tower overlooks the Perfume River and is one of Hue's oldest buildings.

A few drinks before dinner on the 9th floor of the hotel saw us head off to The Tropical Garden for dinner and some entertainment. A great way to end the day.

Hoi An city tour

Today we went on a walking tour of the city. It was a shame it was raining, but we managed with umbrellas to scoot around the town. We saw a short show at one of the stores which was enjoyable. Lots of shops to visit on our journey. Later we had lunch and the rest of the afternoon was free. Those who had ordered items went to try them on and have any last minute adjustments made. A small group went to our restaurant early to have a cooking lesson with the rest arriving at 630pm.
